Synthesis, structural and spectroscopic characterization of defect-rich forsterite as a representative phase of Martian regolith

Forsterite is one of the main mineral phases of Martian regolith. Here we combine synthesis, X-ray diffraction, and vibrational spectroscopy with first-principles simulations of infrared and Raman spectra to characterize its defect-rich structure.
